Good nutrition, home remedies best for measles treatment

The dry season is here again. Already there have been pockets of reported cases of measles in most homes across the country. Studies have shown that dry air has four main effects on the human body. Breathing dry air is a potential health hazard which can cause such respiratory ailments as asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, and nosebleeds, or general dehydration since body fluids are depleted during respiration.

Diseases such as measles occur during dry weather. Measles, respiratory and highly infectious disease is caused by a virus known as rubeola. Measles virus normally grows in the cells that line the back of the throat and lungs.  The illness does not select, it can attack anyone, ranging from adult men and women to children.

However, statistics show that the disease is mainly common among children. Studies have shown that children below 12 months are the most vulnerable ones. Measles can be classified as one of the most undesired and discomforting as well as life threatening illness.

Measles is often a serious disease that can lead to complications such as ear infections, pneumonia and swelling of the brain. Sometimes measles can be fatal or lead to permanent brain damage.  Measles during pregnancy can cause miscarriage, premature labour and low birth weight in babies.  Symptoms are fever, weakness, loss of appetite, red, sore, watery eyes and an inability to tolerate light, blocked or runny nose, dry cough, sore throat and swollen neck glands.

Unfortunately, there is no specific treatment available for measles other than relieving the symptoms. Experts warn that preventing it by immunisation is very important.  However, there recognised measles home remedies such as lemon and water. Lemon and water have been adjudged as one of the best treatment for measles.

Juice from at least two lemon and diluted with at least 30 milliliters of water will help your child. Other home treatment include; Honey/ licorice. Obtain at least half table spoon of honey and half table spoon of licorice.   Come up with a mixture of the two ingredients by combining them in a glass.  Have the mixture well stirred to obtain a good combination.  Consume a glass of the mixture ever day in order to experience quick recovery.

Turmeric roots/ honey:  Gather two to three gourd leaves; a small cup of honey; and a tea spoon of powdered turmeric roots. Have the three ingredients mixed in a spacious cup and stir to obtain a good mixture.  Consume the mixture at least once a day for effective results.

Tamarind/ turmeric: Obtain a sample of tamarind and a sample of turmeric roots. Have the two substances grinded to form a paste. Consume the paste in amounts of three to 400 grams daily in order to experience promising results.
