As the clock ticks away on the 18th National Sports Festival, officials of the Lagos State amateur golf association are still at a loss why the sport was dropped from the Eko 2012 fiesta.
Golf was featured at the last sports festival in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and officials of the association were left bemused when the Local Organizing Committee decided to yank the sport off the menu, despite the fact that Lagos has world class courses and quality players.
“Our chairman Habeeb Fashinro is really sad about it. He and other members had met with the LOC and they gave no indication that golf will be excluded after the association gave satisfactory answers to all the questions that were asked by the LOC.
It was quite shocking to find out that golf will not be part of Eko 2012. We had it in Rivers 2011 and when you even consider the fact that it will be part of 2016 Olympics then it leaves much to be desired,” a member of the association said.
