FRSC begins massive safe motoring enforcement in Lagos

The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Lagos sector command, has concluded plans to embark on aggressive exercise of checking vehicles and drivers on their state of road worthiness today, December 15, aimed at ensuring safe trips on the road especially as activities for the Yuletide celebrations pick up in the state.

This is coming even as FRSC in Alimosho Local Government Area, in collaboration with Isheri Platinum Lions Club, has launched a comprehensive campaign towards ensuring a safe motoring environment in Nigeria and Lagos in particular.

Speaking at the “Ember month” rally, with the theme: “Continuous drivers education, a key to reduction in crashes,” at Iyana Ipaja Garage, Lagos, state Sector Commander,  Ezebong Akpabio, noted that road safety is a shared responsibility because road trauma is an immensely complex problem that can not be solved by FRSC alone.

According to Akpabio, who was represented by Deputy Corp Commander, Adeoye Irelewuyi, Head of Operations, Lagos command, said men of the FRSC would be stationed at every 10 kilometre for 16 hours between the hours of 6 am to 10 pm daily to carry out the exercise and listed the following routes as some of the roads where the exercise would be massively covered  Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ijebu Ore Expressway, Apapa-Oshodi, Lagos Badagry Expressway among other.

He said inorder to achieve the targeted reduction of road accidents to 50 percent, all hands must be on deck in the interest of all.

While urging drivers to reduce night journeys during the period disclosed that more crashes happens in the day time but more deaths happens at night due to poor vision and lack of quick medical response, “Its only the living that celebrates. Let’s learn how to drive to live.”
