Fresh protest in Bayelsa creek disrupts SPDC operation

Yenagoa—Barely 24 hours after aggrieved youths from Twon Brass, in Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, disrupted oil production activities at Agip terminal in Brass, hundreds of community leaders, youths and women from 21 communities in Nembe Kingdom, yesterday, invaded and disrupted activities at the facility owned by Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC.

The protest, which was led by Chairman of Nembe Oil and Gas Committee, Chief Nengi James, and President of Nembe Youths Association, Mr. Jonathan Omongor, it was learnt, took place after a botched meeting between representatives of the communities and management of Shell.

Chief Nengi confirmed the disruption of the activities of Shell in Nembe creek.
He said the management of Shell had failed to meet the demands of the community and that exploration activities would remain shut until their demands were met.

He confirmed that a letter with the listed demands of the communities, addressed to Shell management, had been submitted in the presence of secuirty personnel in the area.
