CAA urges Nigeria to make a good show of AYC

Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) has tasked  the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN not to  make a mess of hosting the maiden African Youth Championships billed for March 2013 in Warri, Delta State.

CAA secretary-general, Lamine Faty who led a six-man delegation to inspect the Warri Stadium last weekend made the charge after the Warri Stadium was declared fit enough to host the championships.

AFN technical director, Omatseye Nesiama stated that Nigeria is highly prepared to host the championships adding that the Local Organising Committee will meet the set standards.

“The CAA has asked us to put up a good show. It is the first edition and they want us to make it world standard and set a precedent.

“The Warri Stadium was okayed for the championships, but we had to make some adjustments to suit athletics since the stadium was predominately football oriented.

“We are also going to put tracks on the training pitch to have a warm up area. In February we will have a test run competition, where all the officiating officials will participate and there, we will give them orientation of what we want to achieve at the championships,” said Navy Commodore Nesiama.

Delta State is solely sponsoring the championships. However, it was gathered that the AFN marketing committee is also knocking on the doors of other prospective sponsors.
