Former National Security Adviser, General Owoeye Azazi (rtd), has said that the menace of Boko Haram cannot be eradicated overnight even as he endorsed community policing as a panacea to the security problem in the country.
Speaking, yesterday, in Lagos at the 4th Christopher Kolade symposium organised by the Nigeria Leadership Initiative, NLI, Azazi said the problem of Bokom Haram was surmountable, but it would take some time for the country to overcome.
The theme of the symposium was: Moving from Developing to Emerging nation: Economic and Political Development with National Security.
Speaking during a panel discussion which included Managing Director/Chief Executive, Stanbic IBTC Bank, Mrs Sola David-Borha, Azazi pointed out that the world as a whole has not totally overcome the problem of terrorism and even in recent times there had been increased terrorist activities in some African countries such as Mali and Niger.
He asked: “Have we overcome Book Haram in Nigeria? Everybody knows the answer, we have not. But there is nothing that cannot be overcome. Just put in place the right measures and make sure you hit at the problem, and then you overcome it.”
