ASABA – SECRETARY to Delta State Government, SSG, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, has attributed the delay in the complete absorption of casual workers in various ministries and parastatals in the state to bloated figures presented by officers who compiled the list.

Speaking while declaring open a two-day conference of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU, in Asaba, Macaulay expressed sadness over the insincerity of  those who were asked to compile the names of casual workers in the state.

He specifically noted the directive of  Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to get all casual workers absorbed.

He, however, lamented  that where a credible list of casual staff was submitted, such workers had since been absorbed, citing Delta State Broadcasting Service, DBS, Asaba, and Warri as a clear example.

The SSG also called for a collaborative effort between labour and all Nigerians alike, noting that government alone could not provide employment for everybody.

He said: “You must play a role to assist government to actualize your goals. If you enhance your salary in an insecure environment, it will amount to nothing. This is why we must assist government to fight insecurity in this country.”
