LOKOJA—Kogi State House of Assembly is to resume sitting after five weeks of tension and crisis generated over the impeachment of the Speaker of the House, Hon Abdullahi Bello, alongside other principal officers.

Vanguard gathered that members of the House agreed to resume sitting after the imbroglio following the intervention of the former governor of the State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, weekend.

Idris was said to have prevailed on the aggrieved parties at a meeting at the Glass House, Lokoja, asking both camps to sheathe their swords for peace to reign in the state.

However, there were still divergent opinions on who would preside over the sitting today, as both camps were eager to produce the interim Speaker during the first sitting.

According to sources, the Momoh Lawal-led group was insisting that its boss would be the protem Speaker on resumption today, just as the G-13 group believes the impeached Bello should resume as Speaker and thereafter tender his resignation letter.

It was further learnt that neither camps would produce the new Speaker due to the new peace arrangement, since both camps had agreed to give the speaker ship to another member from the Central Senatorial axis.

The other principal officers would be restored to their positions since the Speaker, Bello was allegedly the sole target of the executive, who has now agreed to toe the path of reconciliation.
