What would have happened to the Obama campaign if the David Petraeus and Gen John Allen scandal had broke out before November 6, 2012?
That is a question we may never decipher as President Barack Obama has collected 332 electoral votes and Mitt Romney has no trouble with that. But it would have been a major distraction to the Obama’s campaign and the administration that two four star generals were busted in extra-marital affairs, that some secret service chiefs believe should be investigated to ensure that national security issues were not compromised.
Gen David Petraeus who was the former CIA director is credited with ending the war in Iran and was well respected within and outside power circle.
Petraeus Who resigned last week Friday is to face investigation for his relations with Paula Broadwell, who jealousy sparked the whirlwind that swept Petraeus out of power.
Paula was obsessed with another woman, Jill Kelley, who she suspected was romantically linked with Gen. Petraeus Although Paula Broadwell is married and has been known to be the General biographer, investigations revealed that she has a closer relations with General Petraeus. On the other hand, Jill Kelley, 37, who is equally married to Scot Kelley, who is a cancer surgeon and both of them live in Tampa, Florida.
It has not been established that she was sexually involved with General Petraeus, but she was known to organise rich and fancy parties for officers at the Mac Dill Air Force Base where the officers appear fully dressed, with all their ribbons and medals. The women attend in their sparkling long dresses. Class!
Petraeus was known to have attended one of such parties in a 28 car motorcade. Power!
Kelley has a twin sister Natalie Khawam, a lawyer with a troubled marriage. In a letter written to a Florida judge in support of Natalie’s child custody case, Gen Petraeus stated “that” my wife and I have known Natalie for approximately three years, getting to know her while serving in Tampa, Florida, through air relationship with Dr and Mrs Scott Kelley”.
According to Gen Petraeus, it is clear that the child would benefit from much more time with his mother and from removal of the burden some restrictions imposed on her when she does get to spend time with the child.
Gen. John Allen was also reported to have written a similar letter to support Natalie’s custody claims. These are women pulling powerful strings, to have their way. The FBI said last week that it has uncovered “potentially inappropriate” emails between Gen. John Allen, the commander of American forces in Afghanistan, and Kelley.
How it Began
Some time this summer, Kelley who is described as Florida socialite and honorary ambassador to the military, had received anonymous emails accusing her of flaunting a friendly relationship with a military brass in Tampa. Kelley then called the FBI, which traced those emails back to Broadwell’s computer. Investigators are said to have then found emails in Broadwell’s inbox that pointed to an intimate affair with Petraeus, who admitted to the affair and announced his resignation as CIA director.
Broadwell who is a 40 year old author, who wrote the biography on Gen. Petraeus “All In,” is cooperating and the case, which is complicated by the fact that as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Military Reserve she had security clearance to review the documents. She has admitted to the FBI she took sensitive documents from secure government buildings. The government demanded that they all be given back, and when federal agents descended on her North Carolina home on Monday night, it was a pre-arranged meeting.
Prosecutors are now determining whether to charge Broadwell with a crime, and this morning the FBI and military are poring over the material.
The FBI is reviewing between 20,000 and 30,000 documents connected to this matter, the official said. The email exchanges between Kelley and Allen took place from 2010 to 2012.
The U.S. official said the emails were “innocuous” and mostly about upcoming dinner parties and seeing him on TV. Allen denies he was involved in an affair, a Pentagon official said.
Along the line Paula got jealous and fired threats through unnamed emails and the rest is history. Gen. Petraeus now has to manage the damage to his public image, his marriage and the agony of sitting in front of men and women posturing to be puritanical and playing God over the same matter that they are not above board. Panetta said he supports Allen, who has been in command in Kabul since July 2011. He took over that summer for Petraeus, who retired from the Army to take over as the head of the CIA.
Panetta declined to explain the nature of Allen’s correspondence with Kelley, connected to the scandal that led to Petraeus’ resignation last week as director of the CIA.
Allen had been nominated as the next commander of U.S. European Command and the commander of NATO forces in Europe, and despite President Obama’s backing, the nomination has been put on hold. The change of command at NATO is currently slated to not take place until March at the earliest.
Allen was supposed to appear before a Senate confirmation hearing this Thursday alongside his designated replacement, Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford. Panetta said that while the matter is being investigated by the Defense Department IG, Allen will remain in his post as commander of the International Security Assistance Force, based in Kabul.
Former House speaker Newt Gingrich was busy frolicking with his secretary, whom he later married as his second wife, at the time he was calling for Bill Clinton’s head, over the Monica Lewinsky affair.
James Hardly Chase once wrote that “you never know with women and its no use trying to figure out what makes them tick”. Paula’s fury has splashed much in the face of Generals and the spies are at
