OSOGBO — An Osogbo Magistrate court yesterday ordered six alleged kidnappers to be remanded in prison custody for allegedly kidnapping Mrs. Muibat Salaam, the wife of the Speaker, Osun State House of Assembly.
The six suspects; Chukwududi Okereke, Ogbole Ochijile Elijah, Okonkwo Lucky, Chukwuma Osifo, Kaikine Mahan and Uwadiunor Philip allegedly kidnapped Mrs. Salaam on of October 9, 2012 at Ejigbo,hometownof the Speaker.
The suspects were later arrested in Ogun State through the combined efforts of men of the Ogun State Police Command and the vigilante group in the town
Police prosecutor, Mr. Elisha Olusgun told the court that the accused persons conspired together to kidnap Mrs. Salaam, saying they have through the action committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34 Vol. 11, Laws of Osun State 2003”.
Mr. Olusegun added that the accused persons also committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 364(2) of the Criminal Code Cap.34 Vol. II Laws of Osun State 2003 for allegedly possessing firearms.
Counsels to the accused persons, Barrister Bode Babalola, F. O. Nwosu and Nnena Ngwu urged the court to grant the accused persons bail, but the presiding Magistrate Habibat Basiru refused and adjourned the case till December 28, 2012.
