Ezekwesili tasks FCMB mgt on product innovation

The employees of First City Monument Bank (FCMB) Plc have been charged to be innovative in their various jobs as this will help them achieve excellence.

The immediate past Vice President, World Bank, Dr. (Mrs.) Oby Ezekwesili, who was a guest speaker at the FCMB training forum, gave the advice on Tuesday in Lagos, saying, “FCMB staff should maximize all possibilities in order to achieve excellence.”

She further tasked management of FCMB to encourage its staff to be innovative in their jobs, saying, “ For anyone to be innovative, risk must be involved.

That is your staff must be able to take risk to do something different from the regular thing.

So I am saying the managing director, Ladi Balogun should allow innovation through risk taking, otherwise, the bank will not achieve exactly what is expected from them.”

Continuing, she said, “The bank can pioneer some banking products that are very much needed by the society not necessarily those types that are already in existence. New ways, new ideas are better so that the bank can take opportunities. It is better you go beyond the shadow.”

Ezekwesili, further recalled her stay in the government, saying, she liked to work with people who are hard working and innovative.

Probably that is why they call me madam due process. I like to follow things in the way it should be.

I did not work with the government to amass wealth, but to some people getting government job is an opportunity to amass wealth.

This should not be so. I took government job to serve my people and change how certain things should be done to get value.

I want to lift people out of poverty, that is, people should migrate from lower class to higher class and that is exactly what people who serve in government should aim at.”

She further charged the management of FCMB to invest radically on people to acquire knowledge. “ The bank should invest in research. A research team should be constituted if you don’t have one.

Your staff should determine the value they place on themselves not necessarily from the organization. In that way they will make impact in the industry” Ezekwesili added.
