Ado Ekiti—The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has called for the immediate re-deployment of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sontoye Leroy Wakama for alleged partisanship and unholy romance with the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the state.
Speaking at a press briefing at the party’s secretariat in Ado Ekiti yesterday, the party’s Director General for Media,Communications and Publicity,Chief Gboyega Aribisogan alleged that the police boss has closed his eyes to series of criminal acts perpetrated by the agents of the ACN desp- ite repeated calls by the opposition parties in the state that police must act.
According to the PDP spokesman, agents of the ruling party had a couple of weeks ago attacked the former governor of the state,Mr. Ayo Fayose at Oye,Ilawe and Ikere respectively, noting that the state police boss was yet to make an arrest.
He further alleged that the same agents of the state government had stormed the two hitherto towns of Ilasa and Egbe-Iro and chased out the monarchs with thugs.
But the police boss,Mr. Wakama in his reaction has denied the allegation of being partisan, saying police have made arrest in certain instances and charged some to courts.
On the issue of regency at Ilasa, he said it was not the duty of police to install a regent in a town, noting that the primary responsibility of the police was to maintain peace and order.
The police boss said he was ready to leave the state any time his superior officers decide that he must leave.
The PDP spokesman further alleged that no arrest was made over the killing of one Mr. Teslim Yusuff Abiola, a student of University of Ekiti State about a month ago.
He said the CP was over protecting the person that killed Abiola, because he happens to be one of the aides of the governor,
