IT was an unforgettable day for the people of Ethiope-West Local Government Area of Delta State, recently, as the member representing them in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon John Obukohwo Nani, distributed 250 bicycles, 5 motor cycles, 10 welding machines, 20 hair dryers, 10 sewing machines, amongst other things, to the people, as part of his constituency projects.

The eventful ceremony, which took place at Idjerhe (Jesse) Grammar School, Idjerhe, attracted prominent politicians in the area and royal fathers, including Chief Ighoyota Amori.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Nani said he had already built, within this year, a six-classroom block atOkunighoGrammar SchoolandEdjeraGrammar School, both in Jesse, while another four-classroom block was underway.

He said the bicycles, which were particularly for women, was to teach them how to fish, and not just given them fish that would be consumed in no time, adding that the  dryers and welding machines were to enable the beneficiaries open their own shops, instead of  depending on others for survival.

Nani recalled that not long ago, he had built mechanic workshops for some persons who have equally been feeding themselves and families, revealing that the gesture would be extended to different persons annually across the local government area.

He explained that the sum of N6.5 million used to purchase the various items were jointly contributed by him and his aides, saying, “I know that I am  merely a trustee of the dividends of democracy in my constituency and I am duty bound to report back to my people”.

He advised the beneficiaries to put what they received from him into good use, adding, “I am doing so for you to do same to other persons and affect their lives positively, nothing that he would not comment on the issues of a second tenure since power dwells in the hands of the Almighty God”.

Delta state chair of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, who witnessed the event, commended the lawmaker for his brilliant gesture of bringing democracy
dividends to the doorsteps of his people across the entire Ethiope West local government constituency.

Chief Nwaboishi,  who was represented by  Chief Author Akpowowo, said what Nani did  was s wonderful and unexplainable to the people and thanked him on  behalf of the party for removing his people from the unemployment market and idleness.

He said what Hon. Nani had just practicalised was what his people and PDP stand for -empowerment of the people and massive development of the entire state.

His words, “What Nani did is visible for everybody to see. It is a clear indication that no other party can compete with PDP in Ethiope West Local Government Area and I appeal to all Ethiope West people to support the party at all levels for more dividends of democracy to come their way, especially Ethiope West being a PDP local government area”.

The Otota of Mosogar kingdom, Chief Ighoyota Amori, in his remarks, said  Hon. Nani did not disappoint PDP because since his election, he has lived up to expectation of his people, assuring that the lawmaker would  do more for his people within his remaining years.

He said as a rural area, most people in the area needed bicycle than anything for their farming and trading activities, and urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of what have been given to them.

Chief Amori revealed that shortly, local government elections would be conducted in the state, and enjoined the people of Ethiope West to vote for the PDP candidates.
