ANOCA names DBN consultant

The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) has appointed DBN Sports as its marketing consultant for all its programes for an initial period of four years, renewable on the basis of performance.

The agreement stipulates that DBN will be responsible for marketing all ANOCA activities, with a view to getting adequate funding for such events like the All Africa Games, the Africa Olympic Village, the African Youth Games, the ANOCA Games for Seniors and the Olympic Africa Project.

ANOCA said in a letter signed by its President, Lassana Palenfo and addressed to the Chairman and President of of DBN Ltd, Mr Osa Sonny Adun, that the foremost Nigerian sports marketing and television station was chosen as its consultant based on the strong pitch it made and the immense track record of proven prowess in sports marketing over the years. “Following your presentation to the ANOCA Executive Board on June 26, 2011 in Lome, Togo, on marketing opportunities open to ANOCA activities and products and after a careful study of the capacity of DBN Ltd to leverage such activities and products with a view to sourcing, generating and securing new revenue streams worldwide for the adequate funding of ANOCA youth and sports development projects and programmes amongst others on the African continent.

“Please be advised that DBN Limited is hereby appointed Marketing Consultant to ANOCA over an initial period of four years, renewable on the basis of performance of DBN Ltd.

“This letter of appointment shall on behalf of ANOCA confer upon DBN, rights to mobilize revenue relating to the organisation of ANOCA’s Games, sports events and competitions as well as other related events and other commercial exploitations thereof”.

With this deal, ANOCA shall, amongst other things, without let or hindrance, grant DBN Sports access into its territory of jurisdiction for purpose of performing the tasks entrusted to it, allow DBN Sports use the products of the Official Sponsors free of charge for the duration of the competition, to ensure the appropriate location of the cameras are decided between ANOCA, DBN Sports and Host Broadcaster, to make available to DBN Sports and Official Sponsor in the event of ANOCA organised events, the required number of accreditations on demand and to ensure that not less than 20 working days prior to the beginning of the Competition that DBN Sports or its agents shall have access to the site(s).

Commenting on the deal with ANOCA, President Osa Sunny Adum said that DBN Sports was capable of delivering its part of the deal.

Adun said that within the DBN Group, there is an arm in charge of sports marketing that dates back to 1984 when it marketed and televised the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games to the continent.

He cited some of the global sports competitions that DBN Sports had marketed and televised to include  the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, the 1987 All Africa Games in Nairobi, the USA 1994 World Cup, the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, the 1998 World Cup in France, the 2010 African Cup of Nations in Angola, as well as the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
