Concerned about the abysmal performance of Nigeria’s table tennis team to the 2012 London Olympics, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has initiated a national U-20 Table Tennis Championship in the country. The championship begins 17th January 2013.

Speaking at an elaborate press briefing in Lagos, Wednesday, the Overseer’s representative and the Provincial Pastor, Lagos Province 3, Pastor Austin Ukaiwe said, the church was burdened by the general decline in Nigerian sports as was evident by the performance of Team Nigeria at the Olympics.

Said he, “The church is stepping in to contribute its quota to the development of sports in the country and through this effort, we are sure we soon produce Olympic champions.”

He pointed out that winners of the male and female categories will take home N1 million each and a trip  overseas. The runners up will get N500,000 each. Zonal champions will get N250,000 each with other attractive items to be won.
