UGHELLI—DELTA State chapter of Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, has threatened legal action against the Delta State Government over the constitution of Caretaker Committees in 23 out of the 25 local government areas in the state.
Addressing newsmen after a meeting, ACN state Chairman of the party, Chief Adolo Okotie-Eboh, said a team of lawyers had been put together to examine the caretaker committees set up by the state government instead of conducting council elections.
Noting that the party was disappointed with the action of the state government, he said ACN was prepared for the council polls, only for Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan to inaugurate caretaker committees.
He said: “ACN had hoped for the conduct of council elections when the governor recently forwarded names of nominees for the composition of the state Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, to the state Assembly, although some of the nominees were faulted by us and the House was accordingly petitioned.”
Noting that there was an existing ruling on the matter in respect of Edo State, he stressed the need for the court to further interpret the law. He maintained that the party was hopeful of wining no fewer than 17 out of the 25 councils in the state.
