ABUJA—Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday, accused Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN and Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, of budgeting huge sums of money to destabilise President Goodluck Jonathan and his government.
According to PDP, the opposition political parties plan to use the money on negative propaganda designed primarily to confuse Nigerians.
The national Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, disclosed this when he received zonal publicity secretaries of the party at the national secretriat of the party yesterday.
He said: “We have uncovered a game plan by CPC and ACN on a propanganda war against PDP, the President and its elected officials to deceive the public.”
ACN National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and CPC’s Engr. Rotimi Fashikin immediately rebuffed the allegations describing the PDP and the government as fidgeting because of lack of confidence.
“Have you seen a government as insecure as this government,” Mohammed asked yesterday.
He said the accusation was a plan by the government to hound the opposition, adding that it would fail.
“In the next few weeks the nation will see a huge blackmail, lies and cheap propaganda, for which they have budgeted very huge amount of money to discredit PDP.
“We, therefore, direct millions of our supporters to be calm about these elements, which have nothing to show except cheap lies.”
“We challenge the oppositions to come and debate on programmes, actions and governance of the PDP rather than cheap blackmail. We will prefer to lift Nigerian political situation to the next level through issues-based debate.”
