VICE Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Prof Joseph Ajienka has called for a police post to be set up in Aluu to protect lives of students and other residents in the area.

It would be recalled that four students of the university were brutally murdered in Omuokiri, one of the communities in Aluu pen ultimate Friday.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Ajienka who spoke yesterday at the main campus of the university said a Police post would help curb incidents of crime in the area.

Professor Ajienka also broke his silence on the recent suspension of Dr Andrew Efemini as Acting Head of Department of Philosophy.

The Vice Chancellor explained that Dr Efemini was not suspended because he joined a protest by students against the killing of four of their colleagues but for his alleged statements that “further infuriated an already angry mob protesting the mindless killing of the four students at Omuokiri community in Aluu clan”.

According to the VC, the suspension was to protect Dr Efemini and the image of the university.

“You will agree with me that Dr Efemini’s ill advised action on that day infuriated an already tense situation that we were battling on all fronts to contain.”
