Reps to probe Adoke over Justice Ministry’s budgetary allocation

ABUJA—The House of Representatives, yesterday, launched investigations into how the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mohammed Adoke, SAN, has so far, utilised funds that were allocated to the Federal Ministry of Justice in the 2012 budget.

Consequently, House Committee on Justice, led by its chairman, Mr. Ali Ahmad, paid an oversight visit to the AGF in his office in Abuja yesterday with a view to verifying the capital releases for the Ministry of Justice in the 2012 appropriation.

It will be recalled that an aggregate sum of N21,654,036,044 was allocated to Ministry, Departments and Agencies, MDA’s, under the Justice sector, in the 2012 budget, with N14,900,648,708 earmarked to cater for total personnel cost, N6, 180,387,336 for overhead cost, N21, 081, 036, 044 as total recurrent and N573,000,000 as total capital.

Among the MDA’s listed as beneficiaries in the funds allocated to the Ministry included the Ministry itself-N6,029, 601,569, Nigerian Law Reform Commission-N360,706,679,Legal Aid Council, N895, 248, 568, Council for Legal Education, N1, 309, 679, 710, Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, NIALS,-N624, 423, 684, Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration-N88,618, 484 among others.
