ENUGU—Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Power, Mr. Patrick Ikhariale, said yesterday, that the power sector had recorded tremendous improvement in the last one year, stressing that the oversight function of his committee contributed immensely to the achievements made in the sector.
He said that between 2011, when the committee on power made its last oversight function and the present round of similar function in the country, which brought them to the South-East zone, a lot of improvement had been recorded, especially in power stability.
Ikhariale, who spoke on the success recorded in the power sector and the role of his committee in ensuring that the sector was repositioned for improved service delivery, noted that several positive changes had occurred across the country between 2011 and this year.
He said: “There is a saying in my place that you do not tell a blind man that the market is over. When he doesn’t hear any sound any more, he knows that the market is no more.
“I say that we have received commendations; we have received some words of thanks from different parts of Nigeria. The situation has changed so much from what it used to be. It is true we are not there yet, where we said we want to be as a nation but it is equally true that the situation has improved.”
