The Lagos state Judo team has won the First BRF National Open Senior and Junior cadet Judo competition concluded at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos Saturday.
The state team recorded a medal haul of 10 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze medals to place a distant first ahead of second placed Nasarawa State that won just 5 gold medals.
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps placed third with 2 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals while Kogi State with 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal placed fourth.
In his closing remarks, Chairman of the Lagos Judo Association, Alhaji Mutiu Are thanked Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola for his love for the development of sports in the state and urged other stake holders to put their money where their love is.
He said, “History has taught us that love and passion alone are not enough to effect the desired change and development Judo needs in the country, but the resolute commitment to the best practice and hard work.”
