The Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Mr. Ziakede Akpobolokemi has disclosed that the agency has set aside over N250million for the procurement of relief materials for Internally Displaced Persons across the country.
Akpobolokemi said that NIMASA was collaborating with federal government to stem future reoccurrence of flood in thecountry.
The NIMASA Director General stated this yesterday while presenting relief materials to the Deputy Governor of Benue state, Chief Steven Lawani, for onward distribution to the Internally Displaced Persons in Makurdi. Represented by Mrs. Lilian Nneji, the Director of General disclosed that the agency had already visited ‘Grade A’ categorized states in the flood desaster, adding that the agency was thinking of ways of handling such a situation in future.
He expressed concern over the fate of the displaced persons, pointing out that their upkeep should be given priority.
He sympathized with the government and people of Benue state over the flood disaster and hinted that the agency would be making a proposal to the National Assembly on the need for the provision of a law on the management of flood in Nigeria.
