AKURE—GOVERNOR Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State and two former governorship aspirants of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Dr. Olu Agunloye and Segun Ojo, yesterday, said the October 20 governorship election will be decided by the people of the state.
They spoke at the opening of the campaign rally for the re-election of Gov. Mimiko in Owo.
This is coming as five persons were reportedly arrested in Owo with guns, charms, ammunition, masks, cutlasses and other dangerous weapons late on Wednesday.
The thugs were said to have shot sporadically in the air, damaged the sound systems, podium, inflatable billboards, Labour Party, LP’s flags, erected at the Methodist Primary School, venue of the rally.
Yesterday’s ceremony was attended by supporters of LP across the 18 council areas of the state.
Mimiko, who promised not to let the people down if re elected, said “tomorrow will be better than today.”
He said he was prepared for the governorship position unlike a candidate of the opposition who was drafted into the race by a godfather.
Mimiko said: “I am prepared for this job. To become a governor is not a child’s play. You cannot just wake up and say you want to become a governor.
“In the coming election, we say no to any district officer. This state cannot be ”captured” as they are threatening. The decider of the coming election will be the good people of this state not any other person from anywhere. We are not only going to defeat the opposition parties but they will lose their deposit.
Agunloye, who recently defected to LP and Ojo said the people of the state will resist being remote- controlled from Lagos State.
