Delta State female team continued their good run in the Sam Ocheho Handball Invitational Championship beating major rivals, Lagos I 22-18 in yesterday’s first game at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, Rowe Park, Yaba.
The match was tough but the Delta girls, just like they did in their previous games, used fast breaks to gain control of the game. The Lagos team enjoyed massive home support but it wasn’t enough to give it the win that would have seen them go clear at the top of the log.
In the other game, Lagos II had something to cheer, as they edged past Osun 19-18 in a closely fought encounter.
The Lagos team made up of veterans, who came together a week before the tournament, stunned the Osun team to record the famous victory.
In the male category, Lagos II defeated Ekiti 40-17 in a one-sided affair while Ogun defeated Delta 23-22 in a close contest. Both sides were at their best but the Ogun team stayed focused to win the game.
