No fewer than five people Wednesday cheated death when a 3 storey building located at No. 3 Anikantamo street, Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA) collapsed.
Vanguard however gathered that one of the five residents who escaped death from the building, sustained serious injury while the two building beside it were also affected. Property worth several million were also lost to the incident
According to one of the occupants of building, identified as Mr. Ibrahim, said that the building caved in at 1:00 pm when the developer and his construction team were trying to patch (reconstruct) one of the dilapidated pillars of the building.
According to him, “at about few minutes to 1:00 pm, the developer, Baba Lukman arrived with other bricklayer to patch one of the pillars holding the building. Immediately they started the process, I accosted them to stop the process that what is required is total construction. But they declined. While the reconstruction was still on, the building caved-in.”
Another resident, Mr. Godday Onasanya, a Printer, explained that last year December when they organised their Street Jamz, the sound produced by the speaker caused the house to vibrate heavily, adding “when the vibration started, all the residents begun to panic that the building may collapsed any moment.”
