WARRI—THE Federal Government has been commended for not foreclosing the path of dialogue in the handling of the Boko Haram issue.
Reacting to comments credited to Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, that the Federal Government was ready to discuss with the religious sect, which had carried out series of bombings in the Northern part of the country, Mr. Daniel Reyenieju who represents Warri Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said: “This is a welcome development, which must be commended by people of good conscience and capacity for clear reasoning. But the government must show visible level of sincerity and commitment to genuine dialogue devoid of any form of intimidation and arrest once negotiation starts.”
He said that the position of the Federal Government on the issue was a mark of statesmanship characterised by honesty, courage, and correct understanding and characterisation of history.
“Whatever is happening in Nigeria with the emergence of the religious sect cannot be worse than what was experienced in the United Kingdom during the Irish crises few years ago” he added.
