Nigeria’s Under-20 team Sunday ran away with a 2-1 win over their Tanzania counterparts in the first leg of the second round African Youth Championship qualifiers decided in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Alhaji Gero was Nigeria’s hero as he scored two first half goals to put the Flying Eagles in a good stead for qualification for the African Championship that will be hosted by Algeria next year. Atupele Green scored the host’s only goal in the game in which both sides wasted scoring chances.
The Tanzanian Young Heroes will now be hoping for an upset in the second leg to be decided in Abuja.
