IBADAN – Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State is in London in search of investors.
However, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dr. Festus Adedayo, dismissed the insinuation that the governor travelled with his wife, members of his family and some commissioners for the Olympic Games.
Though it was claimed that the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Bimbo Kolade and his Trade and Commerce counterpart were on the entourage, the Agriculture Commissioner attended the weekly state executive meeting at the Executive Chambers, yesterday.
Vanguard called the Press Officer to the wife of the governor, Mr. Deji Babalola, to ascertain if Mrs. Florence Ajimobi went with her husband.
He said he did not know anything about the issue. He said: “I’m not even in that vicinity. I will get back to you.”
Justifying his claims that the governor did not go for the Olympics, he said in a statement that the governor went to the New World Nigeria Investment and Business Summit holding at the Dorchester Hotel, London.
He said as the largest producer of cassava and poultry in Nigeria and its arable 27,000 square kilometre land mass and a market population of over 6 million people, Oyo holds great prospects for any investor in agriculture.
He quoted the governor as saying the participation of the state in the forum put together by the Nigerian Bank of Industry, BOI, was to further drive the quest for foreign investors in Oyo State, adding that he was overwhelmed with the response of prospective investors.
Ajimobi’s London visit is coming few days after the Oyo State Government allegedly sent wives of state legislators on a jamboree to the United Kingdom.
The governor, whose state recently suffered a devastating flood that rendered many citizens homeless, was said to have travelled with a team expected to be hunting for foreign investors at the Olympics.
