RADICAL TRANSITION: FROM CHRONIC STAMMERER TO SOUGHT AFTER SPEAKER
I used to have a speech disorder. As a matter of fact, I was achronic stammerer ,and I had difficulty expressing most commonly associated with involuntary sound repetition and the prolongation of certain sounds. People around me ridiculed me and laughed at me anytime I tried to express myself.
That naturally made me have low self-esteem as I felt people looked down on me and could hardly believe in me. However, I have always been very passionate about public speaking, but being a stammerer was my greatest challenge in realizing this passion.
In any case, I resolved to get better, and I developed myself to become a better person. With time, I got better and moved from being a chronic stammerer to a dynamic sought after public speaker and personal development trainer. To God be all the glory.
I have had the priviledge of training over 500 youth leaders within and outside Ajegunle. I have spoken at various meetings aimed at transforming lives positively.
In 2011, I was one of the selected individuals hosted by the former Honourable Minister of Youth Development, now Sports Minister, at a youth development market place held in Lagos.
I was born on January 25, 1991. I had my primary and secondary school education in Lagos. Presently, I am studying Human Kinetic and Health Education at the University of Lagos. Growing up in the popular ghetto city “Ajegunle” served as an eye opener to life; it gave me appetite to be a better person as I do not allow my background to be a determinant to what I become.
I had challenge with my education, that I had to drop out of school at a particular time, but I didn’t allow the situation to determine what I become. I remained determined, focus and positive about my future.
The major challenge I faced personally while growing up here in Ajegunle was peer pressure, as I was pressured to be involved in some juvenile delinquency but the discovery of whom I am (PURPOSE) made me to stand above the pressures.
YPI FILLING THE GAP
My conviction is that young people should be a voice in the society because we have a strategic role to play in the development of every nation. In achieving this, I founded YOUTHS PASSION INITIATIVE (YPI) , a child and youth advocacy organization dedicated to redefining the mindset of people towards positivity and possibility knowing full well that the mindset of a man is a determinant to purposeful living. The organization’s headquarter is in Ajegunle, Lagos. It also runs in Delta State and Imo State. We are spreading steadily and as well impacting lives.
RESPONSE TO THE CLARION CALL
I have observed that what people need is not money but information; I’ve been able to feed a good number of people with the right information through various YPI programmes set to build them up. Such initiatives include our Self Discovery Conference, Hands of Hope Project which is designed to re-inject hope to the most vulnerable ones, that is the sick at the hospital, motherless and abandoned kids, street children, physically challenged and so on..
We have reached out to the most underserved in our community and currently we are giving aid to a boy (IfeanyiOtisi) in Ajegunle that is confined to a wheel chair. We reached out to him with so much empathy and love. He is at this time attending a supplementary class where he is taught Computer appreciation.
He has informed of his desire to study subjects such as Mathematics, English Language and other subjects to advance his academic pursuit. We are doing the little we have from little or no external support. Now we have to bother with his medical needs; he requires urgently a change of wheel chair since the one he uses is very bad shape. We are hopeful we would get support from well-meaning Nigerians to help him and other young people with similar challenges as we believe that there is ability in every disability.
One of the best thing that has happened to me is the discovery of my purpose, because when purpose is not known, abuse is inevitable .It has been fun fulfilling purpose even under tough circumstances. Young Nigerians should take time out to know discover their purpose. They can, they must and they will if they work towards it.
