SON evacuates N450m bad cables from warehouses

The Enforcement Unit of Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has evacuated 22,108 coils of bad electric cables worth N450 million from warehouses at Alaba International Market in Lagos State.

Briefing the press, the Director General of the Agency, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, reiterated his resolve to fight people in the business to a stand –still until the economy is free from the menace of fake product.“I’m not in a very good mood. I’m thinking about our economy.

The more you look, the more you see products that are sub- standard. Just two and half weeks ago, we seized N250 million worth of substandard electric cables.

“Today, it is disheartening that further seizures of 22,108 coils worth N450 million has been made.  As I am talking to you our people are still removing bad cables at Alaba.  These cables are dangerous.  Why should Nigerians be in the businesses of killing other people and the economy?”

While urging genuine imorters to buy products that meet Nigeria Indutrial Standards, he warned those involved in producing and importing bad poducts “We will fight you to a stand-still.  This shall include both seizures and prosecutin of te culprits.   And beyond eizures and burnings, very soon, we’ll unmaskthese faces and make hem apologise to Nigerians.”
