A NIGER Delta activist, Chief Michael Johnny, has supported the South South governors’ agitation for the introduction of fiscal federalism and resource control.
Johnny, made the remark in Warri in a meeting with a delegation of foreign peace organization to Niger Delta region, said the realization of the desired massive infrastructural development of the oil rich region being agitated for by the people would be achieved by the introduction of fiscal federalism and resource control.
It would be recalled that the South South Governors had on Monday at the South South Governors’ Forum meeting in Uyo, insisted on the introduction of the fiscal federalism and resource control, among other issues affecting the growth and development of the region.
The Ijaw chief, said he was supporting the South South Governors who were now committed to the development of their respective states.
He said: “It is time the resources being generated from the oil rich region should also be used to develop the long marginalized and neglected region. The region’s resources, over years were used to develop non-oil producing states to the detriment of the oil producing Niger Delta region.”
He continued that the agitation for resource control by the region’s Governor was right, and that it is absolutely proper if the resources of the region were used to develop the region.
Johnny also pointed out that it was the duty of the Northern Governors and the Northern leaders to eradicate Boko Haram instead of putting the blame on President Jonathan.
