Jos – The Plateau State Government is to take a N4 billion loan to boost agricultural production in the state. This followed the nod of the House of Assembly to the state government to obtain the loan after adopting the report of the House Committee on Agriculture which recommended approval of the loan on the ground that the purpose was worthwhile.
Presenting the committee’s report, its Chairman, Mr. Istifanus Mwansat, said it critically looked into the proposed use of the loan and was convinced that it would be beneficial to the state.
He said N2.4 billion of the loan would be spent on revamping the Panyam Fish Farm in the state while the balance of N1.6 million would go into improving the Agricultural Services and Training Centres in the state.
The house subsequently adopted the committee’s recommendation and gave the nod to the executive arm to take the loan from Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) through Fidelity Bank.
The Deputy Speaker, Mr. John Shekarau who presided over the session commended members for their patriotism and wished them well as they continued with their recess. Members had been recalled from recess to attend to the matter.
A similar request from the executive arm for approval to obtain an eight billion naira loan to improve water supply in the state is pending before the house.
