OSOGBO - CHRISTIAN Association of Nigeria, CAN, and Osun State Muslim Community, OSMC, have declared support for Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s administration in the state, saying they would not allow anybody or organisation to disrupt the peaceful co-existence between members of the two religious bodies in the state.
The two religious groups which spoke differently in Osogbo, weekend, condemned attempt by some people to cause disharmony between them over the recent security report allegedly indicting Aregbesola over alleged attempt to islamise the state.
At a briefing in Osogbo, Chairman of CAN in the state, Evangelist Abraham Aladeseye, said Christians and Muslims in the state were living peacefully without any breach to the peace.
In a statement, OSMC’s President, Alhaji Salahudeen Olayiwola and Assistant Secretary, Alhaji Hashim Olapade, cautioned the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the South-West to stop campaign of calumny which could degenerate into religious crisis.
Specifically, the group which commended the leadership of the state CAN for rejecting the pressure by the PDP to create religion disharmony, said that it would have kept quiet on the assertion of the PDP, but for the attempt of the opposition to threaten the peace being enjoyed since the assumption of office by Aregbesola.
