Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, have promised to submit list of employers contravening the Pension Reform Act, PRA, 2004, to the National Pension Commission, PenCom and Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity.
At a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, called the Minister of Labour and Productivity to address the oil workers’ grievances in the wake of a three-day warning strike that would have taken place between April 16 and 19, it was agreed that unions should sent the list to PenCom and copy the Ministry of Labour and Productivity.
A communiqué at the end of the meeting said “it was noted that the current issues of pension administration are legacy issues of Defined Benefit Scheme and are currently in Court and before the National Assembly.”
“PENCOM shall play its statutory roles to ensure that PENSION Contributions of staff in Third Party Companies in the Oil and Gas Industry are duly remitted in line with the Pension Reform Act 2004. The Trade Unions promised to forward to PENCOM and copy, the Federal Ministry of Labour & Productivity, the list of Companies contravening the provisions of the Act.”
