President of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Mallam Mohammed Garba has commiserated with management and staff of the Nation Newspapers over the fire outbreak, which gutted three sections of the company. The incident, which was said to have started on Saturday, affected the photo, graphic and canteen departments of the media house.
It was gathered that the outbreak was due to electrical fault in one of the sections. According to the Managing Director of the company, Mr Victor Ifijeh, the fire, which started in the photo section spread to other sections, before some staff on duty made frantic efforts to put out the fire, even before the officers of Lagos fire service arrived the scene one hour later.
While commiserating with the management of the company, Garba said he was shocked over the news of the incident. He said he was about going back to Abuja when the news of the outbreak came and he decided to pay a visit.The NUJ boss urged the management to take consolation on the fact that no life was lost.
The Chairman, Lagos NUJ, Comrade Deji Elumoye, who accompanied the President to the visit also said he received the news with rude shock, commending the staff for their efforts in putting off the inferno before it could spread to other sections. The President and his team were taken round the affected areas.
