CIPM moves to combat unemployment challenges

Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) has pledged to assist the Federal Government fight the challenges of unemployment among Nigerian youths and graduates.

CIPM President, Mr. Abiola Popoola, made the declaration in his remarks at the Institute’s maiden Career and Entrepreneurial Fair held in Lagos last week.

He said that the Fair with the theme: Discovering Entrepreneurial and Job Opportunities, is CIPM’s contribution in addressing the worsening unemployment situation in the country, especially the challenge most employers face in recruiting the right talents with its attendant socio-economic implication on the nation.

Popoola noted that the strategy is to ensure that potential entrepreneurs and job seekers as well as those who are under-employed develop their entrepreneurial skill, so as to contribute their quota to national development. He further explained that the institute through the programme aims to ensure that talents and skills are matched with available openings for the needed productivity and sustainable national development.

As the apex human resource regulatory body in Nigeria, with the vision to become the foremost people’s management institute in Africa, Popoola pointed out that it is incumbent on CIPM to provide a platform for the unemployed and potential entrepreneurs to pick some success nuggets from successful business people in self and paid employment, and also have the opportunity to be selected by prospective employers in a formal gathering.

“This fair, which is the first of its kind in the Institute’s history, forms part of our corporate social responsibility (CSR) in contributing to sustainable national development through: educating the unemployed on job and career opportunities.

“The main objective behind the Fair is to provide a veritable platform for job seekers and potential entrepreneurs interested in self employment; to access information, resources and opportunities available, and also enable recruiters and employers to disseminate information to their target audience about career prospects and opportunities’ in their sectors,” he stated.
