Bayelsa Assembly elects new Deputy Speaker

Bayelsa State House of Assembly has elected Hon Victor Sam-Ateki representing Brass I as its new Deputy Speaker.

Sam Ateki’s election followed the resignation of the former deputy speaker, Hon Fini Terah Angaye, representing Kolokuma-Opokuma constituency II. The former deputy speaker, in his letter, said he was resigning for personal reasons.

The House also elected new House officers with Hon Pastor Peter Akpe, representing Sagbama Constituency I, as the new Majority Leader.

Until his elevation, he was Chairman, House Committee on Information, Culture and Tourism. Hon. Tonye Emmanuel Isenah, representing Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency I, is the Deputy Majority Leader while Hon. Obedient F. Emoton, representing Ogbia Constituency II, is the new Chief Whip.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Kombowei Benson has announced the immediate dissolution of all standing committees in the House.
