DEPUTY Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Nsima Ekere, weekend, described Akwa Ibom as the state that holds the brightest prospect and promise for the profession of estate surveying and valuation in Nigeria.

Ekere who spoke at the John Wood Ekpenyong Memorial Lecture held by the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveying and Valuation (NIESV) at Le Meridien Ibom Hotel, Uyo, on Saturday, said the state had real estate promise in every inch and metre of its soil in addition to being an oasis of peace in the midst of turbulence in the nation.

He described the theme of the lecture, “Transformation and Corporate Governance: The Estate Surveyor’s and Valuer’s Perspective,” as apt and timely, stressing that uncommon transformation has been the Akwa Ibom story since 2007 when Chief Akpabio took over as governor.

Ekere said: “Transformation is everywhere in our state and it would appear to me unnecessary to define gold in a gold mine,” adding that the holistic approach of Governor Akpabio to development and his visionary leadership style have translated into infrastructural projects which have touched all parts and people of the state. The Deputy Governor said he was proud to belong to the profession whose beauty was that “you become an agent in letting people live their dreams and have land under their feet and shelter over their heads.”

The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Engr. Emeka Ezeh, who was the guest lecturer, urged the NIESV to evolve policies that will encourage the development and discussion of ideas, opinions and issues related to the process of enhancing both the theoretical and practical knowledge in commercial property development appraisal.

He equally advised the NIESV to continue professional training to its members on public procurement to close competence gaps and strengthen institutional capacity.
