WARRI—SECURITY has been beefed up in the twin cities of Warri, Effurun and environs in Delta State, following the recent escapades of kidnappers, who, weekend, shot dead a mobile policeman and kidnapped a Sapele-based American expatriate.
Investigations showed that besides the police, which had deployed more personnel to patrol the oil city, soldiers have also joined the in the operations to checkmate criminals.
Also, the Delta Waterways Security Committee, DWSC, Warri, is collaborating with the security agencies on how to get useful information about the hoodlums and their sponsors. Commissioner of Police, Delta State, Mr. Mamman Tsafe, told Vanguard in an interview with the new strategies put in place, he was sure the criminals would be rounded up soon.
He said that policemen in the state had been put on alert following the unprovoked attacks and killing of some personnel in recent times in the state, especially in Warri, by men of the underworld.
A mobile policeman, who was on escort duty was shot dead, weekend, while about three policemen were killed, last month, by bandits, operating in camouflage military uniform.
Tsafe said “We have called on our policemen to increase their level of alertness. We have put machinery in motion to find the people moving from one place to another committing these atrocities in the state, especially in Warri. If you observe, I relocated to Warri and just returned, few days ago.”
“We have strategised and very soon, we are going to get these people. We have mobilised the populace to join us and with what I am seeing, people are coming to us, giving us reasonable information and we are going to verify the information and work on it.”
