ABEOKUTA— Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who is also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday expressed concern over the level of indiscipline in the party.
Although he did not cite specific examples of such acts of indiscipline, he restated the need for discipline among party members across the country.
He however promised that; “such acts will soon be a thing of the past.
“ We are working towards that. We cannot compromise indiscipline and I have been saying this often and often,” Obasanjo said.
In reference to the result of the governorship election result from Kogi State, the PDP chieftain advised the Action Congress of Nigeria, A CN, and other opposition parties to accept in good faith, the result of the governorship election, which saw the candidate of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Idris Wada, emerging the winner.
Obasanjo who spoke in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, described the victory of Wada as the outcome of the wishes and aspiration of the people of the state..
According to Obasanjo; “the result clearly showed that the wishes and aspiration of the voters in Kogi state manifested and counted.
“You see, there is no way you can take the wishes and aspiration of the people away in a free and fair election. And that was what actually happened in Kogi state on Saturday. It is result the opposition should accept in good stride,” he said.
While reacting to the allegation of ‘scientific rigging’ by the ACN, Obasanjo said, the party would always find excuse when defeated, saying, “they will always come up with excuses when PDP pounced them, but, unfortunately, they do not ascribe any name to the local government elections in Lagos State, may be that should be called “unscientific.”
Obasanjo, however, commended the Kogi State chapter of the party for ensuring that it got the peoples’ votes, noting that, “the results clearly show that we are poles apart with the opposition in Kogi state.
“ The people according to reports I got, came out to vote for PDP because they believe in us and I want to thank the people of Kogi State for voting PDP,” adding that, the outcome might not be unconnected with the success recorded by the party during the tenure of the outgoing governor, Ibrahim Idris.
He said “I know Wada. He is my son. He will surely perform beyond expectations, because he will not want to betray the confidence the voters gave to him. Moreover, he will want to surpass the achievements recorded by the out going governor, who has also done tremendously well,” Obasanjo said.
