BENIN- ABOUT 6,000 students of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State, will be graduating at the 19th convocation of the institution on Saturday, December 10.
Rector of the institution, Dr. Philipa Idogho, who disclosed this to newsmen Wednesday, said the Institution will be giving an award to four prominent Nigerians, including the Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State; Justice Constance Momoh, former Chief Judge of the state; Prof. Abraham Imogie, former Secretary of Education and Youth Development, and Dr Mas’udu Kazaure, Executive Secretary of National Board for Technical Education, NBTE.
Idogho said: “We have been working hard in the past one month because we are trying to ensure that this convocation is well organised because immediately after, we are going to have visitation by the National Board of Technical Education, NBTE, for the accreditation of 32 programmes.
“The polytechnic is expanding in terms of infrastructure. We are doing that because of the number of our youths that want to come into the school. Auchi Polytechnic is one of the foremost polytechnics in the South-South geo-political zone and if any student wants to pick a polytechnic, Auchi Poly is always number one.
“This year alone we received more than 26,000 students wanting to gain admission into about 5,000 vacancies. That is why we are appealing to NBTE to also increase our carrying capacity. And to do that they will want to find out if we have infrastructure.
“That is the reason we are deliberately expanding the polytechnic in term of infrastructure so that when they come they will see that we are qualified to take more students. We have completed most of our structures.”
