3 escape death in Lagos building collapse…10 injured in auto crash

LAGOS – No fewer than three persons narrowly escaped death, yesterday, when a two-storey building, belonging to The Redeemed Evangelical Mission, TREM, located at 7, Afolabi Ground, Obayan Street, Akoka, Lagos, collapsed on workers.
In another incident, a commercial bus with number plate Lagos XK 625 EPE somersaulted on Third Mainland Bridge, injuring at least 10 passengers.
On the collapsed building, which would be the third in the last two months in Lagos, according to an eyewitness, was under reconstruction when it caved in at about 4:00 p.m.
At press time, the cause of the collapse was yet to be ascertained but eyewitness said the building must have collapsed as a result of substandard products used in the construction.
While two of the injured persons were lucky to be rescued by men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Authority (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire Service and other agencies one of them was said to have been trapped in the building for hours.
