Katsina—No fewer than 143 people have died and 424 others injured in motor accidents in Katsina State since January, according to the Sector Command of Federal Roads Safety Commission, FRSC.
The Sector Commander of FRSC, Alhaji Habu Dauda, made the disclosure in Katsina, yesterday.
Dauda said in spite of the reduction in the number of accidents during the year, there were 27 more deaths compared to the 116 persons who died the year before.
He said: “The first quarter of this year was the worst when 65 persons were killed and 129 others sustained injuries in various road accidents in the state.”
Dauda attributed most of the accidents to recklessness among road users and expressed concern over the activities of commercial motorcyclists whom he blamed for most accidents in urban areas.
He said the commission would sustain its public enlightenment campaign to ensure safety on the roads.
The commander appealed to motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations.
