OVER 500 students of Afiesere Grammar School in Ughelli, Delta State, yesterday morning embarked on a protest over the purported death of two of their students on ‘okada’ on their way to school.
The students, the Saturday Vanguard gathered embarked on the protest, following the decision of the school to carry on with the test slated for yesterday regardless of the news of the dead students.
The students on getting the news of the accident, which occurred along Ughelli/Afiesere road, immediately went on rampage causing gridlock on the East/West road and destroying property of some unsuspecting residents of the area.
Our correspondent who visited the school at about 11am, reported that there was no student, except the principal and two staff that were in the staff room discussing the incident.
One of the staff, who spoke with Saturday Vanguard on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident but could not confirm the death of any of the students.
He however, said “it is true three of our students were involved in an accident on their way to school this morning but only one was seriously injured and he is currently receiving treatment at the Shekenah Medical Centre, while the other two were taken back home since their case was not serious.”
