Come December 3, 2011, the best of the best will gather in Port-Harcourt for the third edition of Obudu Music Awards, the biggest assemblage of music stars and entertainers from the Niger-Delta region.
Since 2009, Obudu Music Awards has been recognizing hardworking musicians based in Niger-Delta especially in Port-Harcourt and Bayelsa States.
It has been described as the most colourful entertainment event so far in the Garden City. Through this awards ceremony, many talented youngsters have been discovered and lots of stars have also been made. Part of the past winners of the awards include popular whiz kid, Waconzy, Porsh Kayiana, Sodi Cookey, Maxi, Nana and so many other Port-Harcourt stars.

Speaking concerning the awards, the executive producer, Michael Ogolo said “At certain time of the year, musical artistes are required to submit their works based on the categories that we publish to be awarded. The Judges will listen to the songs submitted and decide the ones to be nominated having met their criteria of the awards.
It is also the responsibility of the judges to decide the best entry for each category. So far, it is the most credible and the most attractive music awards in the South-South region.”
He said further that “state of origin of the musician that wins the awards is immaterial, in as much as they are based in Port-Harcourt or Yenagoa. We intend to extend it to the entire Niger Delta and Nigeria as soon as we are able to get the required sponsorship that will help us do so”.
The first edition of the iconic event was in 2009 with over 250 entries and 171 nominations. The second edition which took place last year had over 450 entries with over 200 nominations.
This year, which is the third edition, the organizers revealed that they received over 700 entries. 38 categories were published with 151 nominations.
The event enjoys the support of the Executive Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and other influential political office holders including Hotel Presidential.
