Skipper of U-23 Olympic team, Obiora Nwankwo may have played his last match in the colours of Nigeria with his unprofessional conduct least expected from a skipper at the on-going Olympic qualifiers in Morocco.
The Parma of Italy player showed his termagant nature when he engaged players in brawls or arguing with coaches. While the Nigerian team were down yesterday by 2-0 before Daniel Uchechi scored one back, Nwankwo almost exchanged blows with Senegalese players who may have noticed his temper and taunted at him.
“He is a young lad who thinks he has arrived. His attitude as a captain was unprofessional and he did not even lead as a captain either by his on-the-pitch display or by his conduct”, NFF President Aminu Maigari still mourning the woeful performance of the team said.
“The captain’s band brings so much to players as they lead by example. But we cant say that of Obiora”.
The pocket-size Nigerian fans yelled abuses at him as he engaged Senegalese players or pushing them even after getting a yellow for his retaliatory moves.
When Nigeria lost the first match, he also argued profusely with the referee.
