The Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs Omobola Johnson has urged members of the National Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) to increase the presence of their businesses on the internet to facilitate growth and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contribution in the knowledge society.
The Minister who spoke last week in Abuja when members of the Governing Council of NASME paid her a courtesy visit in Abuja urged them to embrace the use of Information and Communication Technology ICT in their business activities.
She tasked the Governing Council to sensitize and enlighten members of the Association to deploy the tools of ICTs to expand the horizons of their business.
The Minister who described SMEs as the engine that drives most economies, stressed that creating website for the businesses of SMEs would widen their access to market and boost the revenue drive of the SMEs.
She said that many SMEs have increased their market share and grown their business portfolios tremendously by registering their presence online.
The President/Chairman of the council, Dr Ike Abugu who spoke earlier during the visit solicited for collaboration of the Ministry in order to improve the productivity of SMEs in Nigeria.
He said that SMEs contribute to the GDP of the Nigeria and should be encouraged by government to thrive through the provision of an enabling environment and the right policies that will enhance the growth of the SMEs
