Four years not enough, says Jackson’s mother

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Michael Jackson’s mother Katherine welcomed, Tuesday, the maximum four-year jail term given to the star’s doctor, but said it was not enough.

“Four years is not enough for someone’s life. It won’t bring him back. But at least he got the maximum. I thought the judge was very very fair,” she said as she left the Los Angeles courtroom where the sentenced was passed.

“Four years won’t bring my son back, but that’s the law so… I thank the judge, and I thank the prosecutors. I think everything went well,” she told reporters.

Jackson’s sister Reebie added: “I just feel that no amount of days spent in a jail cell will compensate for taking a person’s life.”

They were speaking after the 58-year-old medic Conrad Murray was handed the maximum jail sentence following his conviction for involuntary manslaughter over Jackson’s death at his rented LA mansion on June 25, 2009.

Murray was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter on November 7 for administering to Jackson an overdose of the powerful clinic anesthetic, propofol, in a bid to help him sleep.
