KADUNA-The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has declared a week-long prayer session for Nigeria, starting from today, saying only the Almighty could help solve the suffering of Nigerians.

Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Kaduna of the Church, the Most Rev. Edmund Akanya, who said this in Kaduna, yesterday, at the end of the 2011 Advent Rally of the church, noted that the church believed that “when we pray to God, He will answer us and give us a direction.”

Akanya said : “The Church is not satisfied with the general trend of things in the country because I believe very much that, hitherto, the country has had myriads of problems and we don’t expect to have answers to these problems in a day. Be that as it may, the church is very concerned.

“That is why, from tomorrow  to Saturday, this church all over the country has declared a period of fasting and prayer over what this nation is passing through. That is the only solution we have as Christians to cry back to God and tell Him what we feel about our society.

“We are going to be praying for our President, the governors and our legislators because the Bible says that the heart of the King is in the hand of the Lord and like the rivers of water, He can turn it wherever He will.

“We know that God sees Nigeria and God is interested in Nigeria and we believe that when we pray, God will give direction to this country. That is why all Anglicans have been asked to fast and pray from tomorrow till Saturday,” he added.
