As parts of its collaboration with the organizers of the African International Film Festival, Arik Airline has launched a public opinion driven promo for Nollywood stars to have a chance of getting free return ticket to the 2012 all-important Tribeca Film Festival, holding in New York.
This unique opportunity is part of the initiatives to support the movie industry in Nigeria. The offer came just as the festival organisers announced the jury members for the pan-African event which will run from 30th of November through 4th of December, 2011 in Lagos.
AFRIFF’s Chief Executive Officer, Chioma Ude said the free ticket will be won through a poll in an online competition in conjunction with Arik Air called the Fly Arik prize for African movie stars. The winners will be chosen by the general public and it is a poll for the public’s favorite Nollywood stars.
Relatively, organisers of the yearly event has released names of the jurists, which comprises of six individuals who are well-grounded in the global arts community.
They include France-born Eriq Ebouaney, British playwright, Oladipupo Agboluaje and Heidi Lobato who is the chairperson of Stichting Likeminds, a theatre primarily by and for children of immigrants in Netherlands. They will adjudicate on Feature and Animation.
To adjudicate on Documentary categories is Femi Odugbemi, an award-winning writer, producer/director and photographer who is widely respected for his creativity and professionalism. Odugbemi served as the President of the Independent Television Producers Asssociation of Nigeria (ITPAN). He is currently Managing Director/CEO of DVWORX Limited, a film/TV management company.
Odugbemi will be joined by Mahen Bonetti, founder and Executive Director of African Film Festival, Inc. (AFF), a non-profit arts organization founded in 1990; and Mbye Cham, Ph.D. who is originally from The Gambia and is currently Chairman of the Department of African Studies at Howard University in Washington, D. C.
AFRIFF is a platform for the world to zoom in on the talent and beauty of Africa through film. Started December 2010, it will hold yearly hosting both local and international filmmakers, celebrities, actors, directors, film buyers, distributors, visual artists, film students, amateurs, film lovers and the press.
